[Working Groups] Data Call – Sept. 25, 2014

The Data Working Group met to discuss and provide feedback on the organization and functionality of the existing layers in the data viewer prototype. There were a number of issues that came up related to layer cartography, non-functioning layers (whoops!), and organization in the table of contents. [Working Groups] Outreach Call – Sept. 25, 2014

The Outreach Working Group met to discuss the data viewer UI and integration with the existing Portal website. We developed a few “debris stories” that could be shared with the Marine Debris Use Case team as we prepare to launch the data viewer and conduct outreach abotu the utility of the tool. In the context, of marine debris, stories about the impact of tsunami debris, effectiveness of bag bans, debris concentrations, and cleanup gaps all were interesting and engaging ways to portray the data. [Working Groups] Data Call – Aug. 28, 2014

The Data Working group met to discuss the launch of the data visualization tool. Working group members discussed ways to provide feedback on the data layers and organization with in the viewer. [Working Groups] Data Call – June 26, 2014

The Data Working Group met this week to revise and refine upcoming West Coast ocean data priorities and develop some best practices for map projections. You can read the call notes here. The next data working group call will be July 24th 2pm.  The West Coast Ocean Data Portal (portal.westcoastoceans.org) is seeking input on data priorities related to West Coast ocean health issues like sea level rise, marine debris, ocean acidification, and marine planning. [Working Groups] Outreach Call – May 28, 2014

The Outreach Working Group met in May to discuss upcoming communication materials and events. In particular, the group provided feedback on a draft one pager designed to inform stakeholders about the Marine Debris Use Case and provide copy for the Marine Debris page in the Portal. The group also finalized the Network Technical Assistance Survey, which will be going out to the Network later this week. [Working Groups] Outreach Call – April 30th 2014

The Outreach working group met to discuss current and future planned outreach events and opportunities as well as provide feedback on the development of communication tools for the West Coast Ocean Data Network. At the Network meeting in November 2013, members identified the need to have some public facing forum to connect and communicate with eachother, share ideas and best practices, document Portal activity and progress, and list upcoming events and opportunities for engagement.
