[WCODP ACT] Monthly Call – April 7, 2015

The ACT met last week to discuss some important grant activities and funding opportunities. In particular, the group got an update on the ongoing data development project to integrate data sets related to kelp distribution, fishery closures, and littoral cells. US Senators Introduce Geospatial Data ACT

U.S. Senators Orrin Hatch, R-UT, and Mark Warner, D-VA, have introduced a bill into the US Senate aimed at better coordination and access of geospatial data. Sen. [WCODP ACT] ACT Monthly Call – March 3, 2015

The West Coast Ocean Data Portal Action Coordination Team (WCODP ACT) serves as the leadership for the Portal and Network. The ACT met today and “kicked off” the data development project, discussed our ongoing technical assistance work to Network partners, discussed upcoming outreach opportunities, and identified a group to continue our funding contingency planning. [Training Resources] ArcServer 10.3 webinar now available

The West Coast Ocean Data Network ArcServer 10.3 training webinar is now available online at http://network.westcoastoceans.org/training-resources/. Widely used in the web GIS community to publish and manage mapping services, the webinar covered workflows, configurations, and best practices for managing and publishing mapping services from ArcServer 10.3. In addition, we discussed how the West Coast Ocean Data Portal uses and consumes mapping services. We were extremely fortunate to have Anna Verrill from NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management lead the demonstration. [Working Groups] Data Call Jan. 22, 2015

The Data Working Group met and discussed resources for our Data Development project and provided some definitions around “Authoritative Data” for the West Coast Ocean Data Portal. The West Coast Governors Alliance on Ocean Health and Coastal States Stewardship Foundation invite you to submit a proposal to the West Coast Ocean Data Portal (WCODP) Action Coordination Team for the position of Data Developer. The WCODP ACT is seeking a qualified Data Developer to inventory, assess, integrate, and develop regional data sets related to specific priority areas such as closed and restricted areas, kelp extent and distribution, and littoral cells.
