The WCODP team is excited to announce the launch of the West Coast Ocean Data Portal Knowledge Base (http://wcodp.readthedocs.org/). The Knowledge Base is a technical resource for data managers and data partners who would like to participate and share their geospatial metadata, data and/or web services with the larger community of West Coast ocean data users. This Knowledge Base describes steps to register data in the WCODP, tips, tools, and best practices for developing good metadata and web mapping services, interoperability of web catalog services,

We recently tested NOAA’s web-based metadata editor and data archiving tool, ATRAC for developing ISO 19115-2 metadata and found it to be easy to use and able to export a metadata XML file that can be successfully harvested by the West Coast Ocean Data Portal. https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/atrac/index.html It was originally designed for organizations to submit their data to one of the NOAA Data Centers: National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), but it has been modified to allow any user, after

The West Coast Ocean Data Network helps to increase data sharing capacity throughout the region by sharing best practices and technologies for publishing ocean and coastal data. At the recent West Coast Ocean Data Network meeting two of our Network members led training sessions focused on best practices for publishing discovery metadata and web services. The trainings were videotaped so that they could be shared broadly among our network members. Please explore the sections and let us know how you are employing these practices at

The Data Working Group met to discuss and finalize a number of important resources the Network will use in upcoming data development projects. One was a finalization of the data prioritization list and the other was a best practice recommendation for projections and coordinate systems. You can read the full call notes here. The data prioritization exercise sought input from states, feds, tribes, and other West Coast Ocean Data Network partners to reflect the shared needs the region has for addressing a number of ocean health
