Data Development Project – We discussed the data priorities that will be addressed through upcoming funded work (Proposal Solicitation out now!) Data priorities include regional products related to closed and restricted areas, kelp extent and distribution, and littoral cells. If you have resources to contribute to these priority themes please add information to our google doc.

Authoritative Data – we settled on a draft definition of authoritative data/providers to help “clean” up our data catalog. Please review the definition below and let me know if you have additional thoughts or comments.

Where possible, data is original to publishing entity

  • The West Coast Ocean Data Portal Action Coordination Team met today to discuss upcoming data development and Portal enhancement priorities. You can read the full call notes here.

The group confirmed data development priorities related to the creation of regional products representing closed and restricted areas of the ocean, kelp species distribution, and littoral cells. These data themes will be developed into regional products and services that will go on to help inform West Coast wide management priorities and decisions.

The group also discussed and made recommendations about what User Experience enhancements the IT Working Group should address first. This input come from the User Feedback Surveys that have been collected over the last several months. In particular, the group focused on better instructions and tutorials for users in the Data Viewer as well as more intuitive data browsing in the Data Catalog. If you have suggestions for improvements that can be made to any component of the WCODP, please leave a comment below.
